As the 2018 race season heats up, so does the 954 SUP race series. Every Wednesday paddlers have the chance to work on overall conditioning, race strategy and technique.
Many people enter the sport of paddle boarding with visions of chilled out weekend paddles but once bitten by the race bug its a whole different story.
Getting out there and training in SUP race setting is not only a great way to achieve personal milestones and test your mettle against other paddlers but is an amazing full body workout and a lot of fun.
CARDIO: SUP is an amazing way to get your heart pumping (especially when racing against other people).
CORE: A proper stroke technique strengthens and builds your core from your back to your obliques.
BALANCE: In flat water or sloppy chop, you can increase your leg strength, balance and stability every time you paddle.
JOINTS: Unlike running, SUP is much kinder on your joints (particularly in flat water) which allows vulnerable joints to stay healthy.
Besides the physical benefits, racing on a weekly basis against other people can really boost your confidence and help you feel comfortable in a race scenario.
Racing is a great chance to hone techniques such as starts, stroke and buoy turns. Additionally, it allows you to test out a race strategy and helps you feel comfortable racing with a group of paddlers (which can be intimidating even for the seasoned paddler).
The 954 SUP series is a 10 week event every Wednesday with both a 1.5 mile and a 3 mile course, that provides paddlers of all levels a chance to get a great workout.
Whether you are new to paddling, a seasoned veteran or somewhere in between come hang with local paddlers, get an awesome workout and have FUN!
