That’s a Wrap – 2018 Youth World Championships

The closing ceremonies took place last evening (Friday, July 20th), following a single race sailed for all classes.  Corpus Christi, TX proved to be an ideal venue for this iconic championship with all classes completing their full schedule of races within the 5-day regatta.  After the dust settled, team USA walked away from the event with their best performance in decades.

The final trophy, the Nations Trophy was presented to the U.S. Youth Worlds Team for winning gold in four classes and silver in a fifth (Girls’ 29er Class). The U.S. team finished with the low score of 28 points. New Zealand was second with 59 points, followed by Italy with 62 points.

The US team will now set their sights on the Youth Olympic Games to be held in October in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  A huge congratulations to all of the US Sailors as well as to the Corpus Christi Yacht Club for taking on this enormous championship and delivering some of the best conditions that this event has ever seen.
