Last week I had the pleasure of attending the 2018 Dunkin-Lewis, Johnson Outdoors Dealer Meeting (try saying that fast 5 times!)over in sunny Jensen Beach, FL.
In this year’s spread of kayaks, Ocean Kayak has introduced the first leisure pedal system on a kayak to their line. Originally, these pedal systems were more focused on the fishing aspect of the kayaking world. Now, anyone can enjoy them! I had the pleasure of being one of the first people to give it a whirl!
Overview: This thing moves! I wasn’t expecting the Malibu to be as responsive and stable as the Predator PDL, but boy was I wrong! The chair has a nice vantage point, lifted slightly above the gunwales of the kayak, it is a nice way to stay in the action and keep your eye out for any wildlife that may be gliding under you! Definitely, the best pedal system in its price range.
Because I love to fish, I was able to sneak out on the Predator PDL before the meetings started. This is by far my favorite kayak at the moment!
This kayak is super spacious and lets you stand up to see whats going on around you. EXTREMELY stable! I am infatuated with this thing! I pedaled about 3 miles without breaking a sweat! It was 6 AM and I had a nice hot coffee I had brewed in my hotel room which was kept warm by a nice little Infinity mug they had gifted me! Sitting perfectly in the Predator’s cup holder, it was my only companion on the water beside Childish Gambino’s new album, which was blasting in my headphones causing me to participate in some impromptu karaoke. This was the life. Paradise. I had made it.
Oh. I also managed to land a nice trout even though the fishing was a bit tough that week!
The meeting was over before I knew it. I had returned with some new friends and a wealth of knowledge on the fisheries in North Florida as well as the array of kayaks and canoes that Johnson Outdoors has to offer!
